Lebanon, New Hampshire - The Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) Collaborative has announced a Call for Scientific Membership Applications now through April 30, 2014.
Under the leadership of the Chair-elect, Mike Murphy (Oxford) and the support of a refreshed Executive Team, BEST is reviewing its scientific membership, and is now looking for new talent to provide continued scientific vigor and fresh ideas. Members are expected to actively participate in BEST studies, contribute ideas for new ones, and participate in BEST meetings. Projects and studies are managed by individual members through one of our four teams:
- Cellular Therapy

Ziggy Szczepiorkowski, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center - Clinical Studies/Transfusion Safety
Mark Fung, University of Vermont
Alan Tinmouth, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute - Conventional Components
Dana Devine, Canadian Blood Services
Pieter van der Meer, Sanquin Blood Supply - Donor Studies
Ralph Vassallo, American Red Cross
Marc Germain, Héma-Québec
Meetings are held twice per year, generally alternating between a North American venue in autumn and a European venue in early spring. The meetings, which are highly interactive, last a day and a half to 2 days, and are always lively and stimulating. Members receive a stipend to assist with travel expenses.

About the BEST Collaborative: The Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) Collaborative is an international research organization whose objective is to improve the safety of transfusion and cell therapy and related services through standardization of analytic techniques, development of new procedures and execution of clinical trials in hemotherapy and cell therapy. More than 80 scientific publications have resulted from the Collaborative's work.
