The Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) Collaborative is an international research organization with a vision to lead the field of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies toward the best products and practices for donors and patients. We currently operate in teams covering 4 areas: Conventional Blood Components, Clinical Transfusion Studies, Cellular Therapy, and Donor Studies.
We have 42 scientific members, 15 manufacturing sponsors, and 21 blood service sponsors from 21 countries representing a diversity of interests and high levels of accomplishment. The supporting members of BEST span a broad range of the companies and blood suppliers engaged with blood collection, distribution and transfusion worldwide. We also have been pleased to have some participation from regulatory agencies such as FDA and the Paul Ehrlich Institute. BEST has published 135 peer-reviewed papers and has 40 studies currently open. As part of our mission, BEST believes it brings to the community thoughtful consideration to identify important questions in Transfusion Medicine, design and execute studies to address these questions, and provide critical thought and synthesis of the available evidence.
