Bacterial contamination of platelets with Acinetobacter (TRESPASS)

tudy Question: Are there additional possible cases of platelet-associated sepsis due to ACBC, SS or LA that have remained unidentified from 2018 – 2022? This study would identify all cases of ACBC, SS, or LA bacteremia within the study timeframe and assess whether the index-positive blood culture was collected within three calendar days of a prior platelet transfusion. While most of the septic reactions occurred rapidly after the blood transfusion, it is reasonable to assume that patient factors and size of bacterial inoculum could cause a more delayed response that was not recognized as a transfusion reaction.
