Study Title
An international comparison of HIV and syphilis epidemiology in blood donors (2007-2022)
Study Description
Building upon the results of study BEST-123, this study indends to further assess comparatively HIV prevalence and incidence in blood donors across a longer time-period (up to 2022), a time-period that now encompasses the COVID-19 pandemic as well as changes in deferral criteria in several jurisdications. Similarly to BEST-123, the relations between HIV prevalence and incidence in blood donors and in the general population will be assessed for each jurisdiction. BEST-175 will also assess comparatively syphilis seropositivity in blood donors in comparison to seroprevalence in the general population acros time (2013-2022) and jurisdictions . Also, HIV and syphilis incidence and prevalence will be compared. Lastly ,the surrogate value of syphilis seropositivity for HIV positivity will be evaluated (sensitivity and positive predictive value) across the different jurisdictions.
