Study Title
Survey on IgA-deficient components
Study Description
IgA deficiency is the most common immunodeficiency. Severe allergic reactions due to the presence of IgA in blood components are rare events but have been reported. Some jurisdictions require the use of IgA-deficient components for IgA-deficient patients with anti-IgA and a history of allergic transfusion reaction. Red cells can be washed to remove IgA; platelets and plasma are obtained from IgA-deficient donors which means that blood establishments must identify igA-deficient donors and maintain an inventory of IgA-deficient plasma for rapid availability. However, current practices regarding the collection and use of IgA-deficient components are not well known.
The aim of the study is to identify the current practices relating to the use of IgA-deficient components.
